Oil purifiers (oil purification equipment) can filter diesel, but it is necessary to select the appropriate type and configuration of oil purifiers according to the pollution type and purification requirements of diesel. The following is a specific analysis
1. Plate and frame oil filter
- Applicable scenarios: remove solid particles (such as dust, metal chips) in diesel
- Filtration accuracy: usually 1~10 microns (filter paper/filter cloth needs to be replaced)
- Advantages: low cost, simple operation, suitable for coarse filtration.
2. Centrifugal oil purifier
- Applicable scenarios: separation of moisture and heavy particle pollution in diesel
- Principle: use centrifugal force to separate impurities of different densities (such as water, mud and sand)
- Advantages: no consumables are required, suitable for diesel with high water content.
3. Vacuum oil filter
- Applicable scenarios: deep dehydration and degassing (such as diesel oil that has water ingress or emulsification due to storage)
- Principle: vacuum heating to evaporate water + precision filtration
- Advantages: can reduce water content to below 50ppm.
4. Coalescing and separation oil purifier
- Applicable scenarios: efficient removal of free water and tiny particles
- Principle: Coalescing filter element combines and separates small water droplets
- Advantages: suitable for fine purification (such as automotive diesel).
1. Diesel property adaptation
- Diesel oil has a lower viscosity (compared to lubricating oil), so special filter materials (such as anti-leakage filter paper) need to be selected.
- Avoid using equipment containing cotton filter materials (diesel oil may dissolve fibers).
2. Fire and explosion protection requirements
- Diesel oil is flammable, and the oil purifier needs to be equipped with an explosion-proof motor and an electrostatic elimination device.
- The heating temperature is controlled below 60℃ (the flash point of diesel oil is usually 50~80℃).
3. Types of pollutants
- Solid impurities: Ordinary filtration is sufficient.
- Moisture: Centrifugal or vacuum dehydration is required.
- Microbial contamination: Add bactericide or use nanofiltration.
- Gas station storage tanks: Remove water and sediment at the bottom of the tank.
- Ship/generator fuel system: Prevent nozzle clogging.
- Biodiesel processing: Separate glycerol byproducts and catalyst residues.
- Gasoline or solvent mixed in diesel: Distillation separation is required (ordinary oil purifiers cannot handle it).
- Severe oxidation deterioration: Chemical regeneration is required (such as white clay refining).
Recommendations
If diesel is mainly used for engines, it is recommended to choose a combination of coalescence separation + precision filtration equipment (such as ISO 4406 standard reaching 14/12/9 level). Before processing, the degree of contamination (water content, particulate matter content) should be tested to match the most economical purification solution.
