The role of turbine oil purification device

The turbine oil purification device is a key device in the turbine lubrication system. Its main function is to maintain the cleanliness and performance of the oil and ensure the safe, stable and efficient operation of the turbine system. The specific functions include the following aspects:

1. Removal of mechanical impurities

- Filter solid particles: remove impurities such as metal chips and dust in the oil due to equipment wear, pipeline rust, or external intrusion, and prevent particles from scratching precision parts such as bearings and gears.

- Protect lubricating surfaces: prevent impurities from accumulating on the friction surface, reduce mechanical wear and extend equipment life.

2. Separate water

- Deemulsification: During operation, turbine oil may be mixed with water due to shaft seal leakage or condensation to form an emulsion. The purification device separates water through centrifugation, vacuum dehydration, or coalescence technology to restore the lubrication performance of the oil.

- Prevent oil quality deterioration: Water will accelerate oil oxidation, breed microorganisms, lead to increased acidity and sludge formation, and dehydration can delay oil aging.

3. Control the physical and chemical indicators of oil products

- Reduce the acid value: remove acidic substances in the oil by adsorption or filtration to avoid corrosion of metal parts.

- Remove aging products: remove colloids, asphaltene, etc. generated by oil oxidation to maintain the fluidity and heat dissipation performance of the oil products.

4. Remove gas (defoaming and degassing)

- Remove air and bubbles: air or bubbles mixed in the oil will affect the lubrication effect and cause oil film instability. Vacuum purification can remove dissolved gases to prevent pressure fluctuations or pump cavitation caused by foam.

5. Extend the service life of oil products

- Reduce the accumulation of pollutants through continuous purification, reduce the frequency of oil changes, and save maintenance costs.

6. Ensure system reliability

- Prevent oil circuit blockage: reduce the deposition of impurities in filters, valves, etc., and avoid insufficient oil supply caused by blocked oil circuits.

- Avoid speed control system failure: For EH (electro-hydraulic control) systems, clean oil can ensure the accurate operation of precision components such as servo valves.

Common purification technologies

- Centrifugal separation: Use centrifugal force to separate impurities and water with different densities.

- Vacuum dehydration: Heat the oil under negative pressure to evaporate and extract water and gas.

- Precision filtration: Use filter elements or filter screens to intercept tiny particles (up to NAS level 5 or higher).

- Coalescing separation: Use oleophilic/hydrophobic materials to coalesce water droplets and then separate them.

Application scenarios

- Daily maintenance: Continuously purify the running oil through an online or bypass system.

- New oil treatment: Pretreatment before new oil injection to ensure initial cleanliness.

- Oil recovery after overhaul: Regenerate the contaminated oil after overhaul.

Through the above functions, the oil purification device is directly related to the efficiency, vibration control and long-term operation safety of the steam turbine, and is an indispensable auxiliary equipment for power plants, petrochemicals and other industries.
