Vacuum pump application for oil filter

The vacuum pump is the core component of the oil filter (especially the vacuum dehydration oil filter). It is mainly used to evacuate the vacuum, create a low-pressure environment, and evaporate and separate the water and gas in the oil efficiently. Its specific uses are as follows:


Main functions of vacuum pump

(1) Providing a vacuum environment

- Establishing a negative pressure (-0.08~-0.099 MPa) in the vacuum separation tank, lowering the boiling point of water, and making the free water, emulsified water, and dissolved water in the oil evaporate quickly.

- Suitable for transformer oil, turbine oil, hydraulic oil and other oils that require deep dehydration.


(2) Removing dissolved gases

- Dissolved air, oxygen, hydrogen and other gases in the oil are precipitated under low pressure and extracted by the vacuum pump to prevent the oil from oxidation and foaming.

- Improving the oxidation resistance of the oil and reducing the risk of equipment cavitation.


(3) Auxiliary oil circulation

- Some oil filters use vacuum suction to inlet oil, which reduces the wear of mechanical pumps and is suitable for high-viscosity oils (such as gear oils).


Working process of the vacuum pump in the oil filter

1. Oil heating (50~70℃) → Reduce viscosity and improve water evaporation efficiency.

2. Enter the vacuum separation tank → Under a vacuum environment, water and gas are quickly precipitated.

3. Vacuum pump exhaust → Evaporated water vapor and gas are extracted, liquefied through the condenser and discharged.

4. The purified oil is reused or stored after fine filtration.

Key parameters for vacuum pump selection

- Ultimate vacuum: usually needs to reach -0.095 MPa Above, to ensure efficient dehydration.

- Pumping rate (m³/h): Match according to the processing capacity of the oil filter to avoid insufficient or wasteful pumping.

- Corrosion resistance: When handling oil containing acidic components (such as old lubricating oil), stainless steel or anti-corrosion materials are required.

- Explosion-proof requirements: Explosion-proof motor vacuum pumps are required for flammable environments (such as the petrochemical industry).


Maintenance and precautions

1. Regular oil change (rotary vane pump): Prevent oil emulsification or contamination, affecting the vacuum degree.

2. Check the sealing: Pipeline and valve leakage will cause the vacuum degree to decrease.

3. Condenser maintenance: Prevent water vapor from entering the pump, causing corrosion or performance degradation.

4. Avoid overload: Long-term extreme vacuum operation may damage the pump body.


The core function of the oil filter vacuum pump is to create a vacuum environment, evaporate the water in the oil, and precipitate the gas, thereby improving the purity of the oil. Selecting the appropriate vacuum pump type (rotary vane, Roots, water ring, etc.) according to the oil characteristics (such as water content, viscosity) and processing scale, and properly maintaining it can significantly improve oil filtration efficiency and extend equipment life.
